Happy New Year, 2010

Today, New Year's Day, I was in my kitchen cleaning a mirror that hangs on the wall.
It is an old window made into a mirror that has three panes.
On the back of the mirror was a card attached, it was dated Christmas 1994.
Here are the contents of that card for this New Year 2010.

Dear Steven

See a reflection of yourself in each mirrored pane of this gift to you from me.

Pane One:
Your courage with strength to attain your goals - both physically and spiritually.

Pane Two:
Your blooming artistic talents that are bursting forth in so many mediums.

Pane Three:
Your expressions of faith, hope and love in the life you lead within yourself and with others.

May the Christmas of 1994 fill your life with peace and joy.
Keep your courage up and remember to be good to yourself in the New Year.

Love,
Jan Gabler

At the time this card was written I was sober two years and still very afraid of life.
Jan mentored me to trust the journey and stop avoidance behaviors. She was a dear friend then and is still a dear friend now as she is in her 80s.
She took me in at a time that I struggled deeply within myself.
She believed in me even when I did not and every time I read this card it reminds me of all that has taken place in my life. I am truly grateful. I learned to face my fears and stop avoiding what a wanted most of which was to love myself. Use these words the Jan wrote so many years ago to ring true in your life in this New Year.

Peace to you in 2010.
Steven
